WHAT IS THE ROTARACT MOVEMENT?
Rotaract is a voluntary movement founded worldwide for young professionals aged between 20 and 35, encompassing the facets of life with five main avenues of service: Community Service, Club Service, Professional Development, International Service and Environment Service. Together, they ensure a balanced club program and provide important opportunities for the personal development of each Rotaractor.
Through Rotaract, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills that will assist them with personal development, but also address the physical and social needs of their communities while also promoting international understanding and peace.

A Year in review: the rcc journey
We had an especially impactful year in 2019/2020, with a record high in the number of projects in Community Service, Club Service, and Professional Development.
The 50 th anniversary of the Rotaract Club of Colombo was commemorated in September 2019 at the Havelock City Club House with Mr. Rusly Hussain, who initiated the Rotaract Movement in Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest. The installation also marked Rtr. Imran Akbarally officially taking up the role of President for the year 2019/ 2020, along with his committee.
WHO ARE WE?
The Rotaract Club of Colombo was established on 9th September 1969 with the guidance of the Rotary Club of Colombo. It is the first and oldest Rotaract Club to be chartered in Sri Lanka, the third in South Asia. We continue our proud legacy to be a group of young professionals committed to personal, professional and community development with a vision to develop effective leaders and promote responsible citizenship. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month.
WHAT DO WE DO?
- Develop professional and leadership skills
- Emphasize respect for the rights of others, and promote ethical standards
- Provide opportunities for young people to address the needs and concerns of their immediate community and the world
- Provide prospects for working in cooperation with sponsor Rotary Clubs
- Motivate young people for eventual membership in Rotary
- Network with a multitude of people both locally and internationally
OUR AVENUES OF SERVICE
We improve the quality of life among vulnerable and marginalised groups in our community by addressing critical issues such as poverty, education, and hunger.
We focus on strengthening fellowship and forging friendships among club members by conducting activities for networking, socializing and establishing a club identity.
We engage the diverse network of the Rotaract movement, to strengthen international relationships, while showcasing the heritage, beauty, and culture of our island.
We encourage members to widen their knowledge on different subjects, and improve the leadership and communication skills required to thrive in a professional environment.
We are environmentally conscious, forward-thinking, and implement green-friendly initiatives that will positively impact our community in both the short and long term.
